Emotional Regulation Workshop organized by Bombay Psychiatric Society & Prafulta

An orientation to Emotional Regulation was conducted last Saturday, 22nd February, jointly by Bombay Psychiatric Society (BPS) and Prafulta, Centre for Psychological Wellness, in the form of an experiential workshop at Prafulta’s Andheri Centre.

Facilitated by Prafulta’s Fr. Godfrey D’Sa, Director and Psychotherapist, and Ms. Mimansa Popat, Consultant, Special Educator, Psychotherapist, and Trainer of Integral Somatic Psychology (ISP) in India, this 3-hour workshop laid the ground for understanding Emotional Regulation and its role in therapy. An assisting team of five ISP practitioners provided guidance during the practice session for 25 participants comprising of psychiatrists and psychologists.

The workshop provided a comprehensive understanding of emotions as they manifest in the body, the challenges of emotional dysregulation, and the importance of developing emotional capacity and resilience by embodying emotions. Participants were introduced to a range of emotional regulation and therapeutic approaches. They were then divided into small groups and encouraged to practice the six simple steps of Integral Trauma Resolution (ITR) with supervision to experience holding the emotion in the body and develop affect tolerance.
